NY EATS: El Mitote

Phil and I sort of stumbled upon this Mexican restaurant one day when we met up for lunch in the Upper West Side. We initially wanted to get Ella but for whatever reason, it was not open.. so we walked a few blocks and ended up with a happy stomach filled with tacos and burritos. I got the bistec tacos, which were really good. I was a little disappointed at first that it was a single tortilla since I usually like it when there’s double shell. The burst of flavor in each bite made up for it; at first look, the simplicity of just onions and greens almost fooled me into thinking and questioning if I made a bad decision with my order. But the steak was juicy and the lime just made it all the greater. I’d come here again! El Mitote. 208 Columbus Ave, New York, NY 10023. www.elmitotenewyork.com

NY EATS: Poketown

Poke is one of my favorites. So I’m glad there’s Poketown in Chinatown located conveniently for me to satisfy my cravings easily after church or before the gym. You can’t see the fish since it’s buried underneath all the other yummy things, but generally it’s chunky and fresh the way it should be! As most poke places, they have options you can choose from or you can create your own. For what they charge, they’re pretty generous with their toppings and mix-ins compared to some other places I’ve visited in NY. I honestly think Poketown has been getting progressively better since they’ve opened; in terms of service, quality of their ingredients and their prices. Yeah, it may be a little pricey for Chinatown but I’m still a fan of this place. They are very friendly every time which is always a plus! I tend to always get a spiralized zucchini […]

MIAMI EATS: Submarine Crab

This was my 2nd time getting Submarine Crab in Miami. I love that my friends take me here because they know my love for seafood! The first time I went, I got the torpedo sauce (which was a little too spicy for me), so the second time I thought I’d play it safe by getting the garlic butter.. or so I thought. I went BIG and got the Combo #2; 1 lb clams, 1 lb shrimp with 1 lb of king crab legs. The seafood was amazing, but my fingers smelled like garlic for days no matter how much soap I used. And yeah unfortunately, my weak stomach could not handle all that garlic. I had no problem eating it – but I felt sick for days afterwards. I would go back again.. just think I’ll be getting butter sauce on the side or something! By the way, their corn […]

NY EATS: AG Kitchen

If you like guac, you gotta check out this place called AG Kitchen in the Upper West Side. They prepare the guac right in the middle of the dining room using the best looking avocados and fresh ingredients. There’s classic, pineapple & pomegranate, papaya & mint, or the AG Guacamole trio – and you have the option of choosing mild, medium or spicy. We chose the mild papaya & mint guacamole. Even though the bowl is kind of small, making it pretty pricey for costing $11, it would make a good rare occasional treat given that the chips were also really good. So I actually wanted to check this place out originally because of a craving for an arepa. I love arepas. For those that don’t know what an arepa is, it’s a yellow corn cake. So of course I had to get the braised short ribs arepa. It was what I […]
